What Is Life Coaching, Anyway?

I feel like this is such a popular question… so popular, that it’s something I KNOW you’re wondering, but not asking.

Assuming, "I don’t need life coaching. She can’t help me. That would be embarrassing. I’ll figure it out one day."

But those assumptions are what might be holding you back!

I want to clarify 5 things about life coaching, specifically things that I, too, was wondering when I first even started considering coaching.

#1: What kind of life experience do I have, that will help you? We are different people. We have different problems and you don’t know what I need.

Guess what? I don’t need to know everything about your situation to help you!!

The awesome thing about coaching is that I’m trained to be curious for YOUR BENEFIT. Not for my own curiosity. Meaning, I may really want to know more about what you’re talking about, but that’s not going to help YOU.

Life coaching is about asking these questions that can be so powerful in getting the most out of you.

I am not your mentor. I’m not going to tell you how to live your life. What works for me may not work for you.

But I’m here to COACH you to be the best version of yourself. And the tools I have developed can help virtually anyone with any life-stunting issue.

#2: I’m nervous that you’re going to know too much and think differently of me.

Hey! This is a no-judgement zone. Everyone has had their share of life troubles, including me! I promise you, my empathy is sincere.

Another thing is that YOU set the agenda, and really, the rules. If you don’t want to talk about something, we don’t talk about it. It may hold you back, you may not grow from it, but I’m not here to pry if you aren’t up to it.

#3: Why can’t I just go to therapy?

You can. And you might.

But life coaching is different than therapy because we are going to work together to get you to move FORWARD. We may talk about the past, but we’re not going to dwell on it or figure out reasons you’re stuck.

Together, we’re going to create actions that lead to real solutions and get you moving on your merry way.

#4: Who can this help?

You!

Again, you can bring the topic to the table. Are you feeling stuck? Or totally unmotivated? Lacking confidence? Or do you just need help with one little issue? Life coaching can help you with that.

The only thing is, I need you to actually WORK with me. Because the reality is that real change is not easy!

#5: This is embarrassing. Life coaching? I’m a failure.

NO! The awesome thing about life coaching, and my perspective on it, is that you already have the answers. You just don’t know it yet!

Asking for help is one of the most courageous things we can do as humans, and it’s something that can pay off immensely if you let yourself be a little vulnerable and say, hey, I am going to take care of myself and do this!
